Day 8: 12 Days of Christmas Nails

Day 8 here we come! Today was Orly - Liquid Vinyl and Sinful Colors - Cold As Ice.

Orly - Liquid Vinyl is my go to black. I use it for just about all black manicures. I only used 1 coat for this. And Sinful Colors Cold - As Ice is a white bar glitter. I used one coat for the glitter. You can see that it applies nicely and doesn't look patchy. 

I loved this combo! Way better than the bar glitter mani I had earlier in the week. 

Day 19: Nail Polish Advent Calendar

Hello again! Today I have for you a really neat glitter polish! It's from Ulta and it's called Fashionably Late. It's a black base with red glitter and red hex glitter.

Very pretty I think! I used three coats.

Leopard Print Nails

Hey lovely ladies. Again, I've disappeared. *sigh* The good news is I finally have a new laptop. It's going to be a lot nicer for blogging. I have tons of NOTD photos that I would love to share.

So first up is some nail art I did back in June during a nail challenge. I created leopard print nails. My base was Essie - Over the Knee. The leopard print was with Orly - Liquid Vinyl and a bronze Sally Hansen nail pen.

The technique was actually pretty simple. I used two coats of Essie - Over the Knee. I then used the bronze Sally Hansen nail pen to create the spots. It wasn't overly pigmented so I did a second coat on the spots. The black parts I did with toothpicks. Toothpicks are honestly the best tools for nail art! They are cheap and can be thrown away when you're done. So no extra cleanup.

The hardest part about nail art is waiting extra for it to dry. Otherwise, like me, you will have a few nails smear when you apply top coat. I really thought I waited long enough. Totally sucks, but I'll move on. ;)

  

 So what do you think? Will you try this out!? Honestly, it was pretty easy for me to do and I don't have much experience with nail art. I think it's adorable too.

China Glaze - Haunting

Yes, I'm showing you a polish from a Halloween collection in February. :p I picked this up on clearance at Sally's in December for $1.99. It's from the 2011 China Glaze Halloween Collection.

Haunting is a lovely black shade with bits of silver glitter. Totally an acceptable color to wear outside of the month of October too. I needed three coats to get coverage as at two I still had some bald patches. I think 3 coats are a bit much for black since it's usually suppose to be pretty pigmented.

The nice thing about the glitter is that it is fine, so my manicure is not bumpy at all!

The manicured worked well with the task I had to take care of today too. I had to make a trip to the Adler Planetarium for my Astronomy course. I watched a simulated star show in one of the theaters.

OPI - My Private Jet

This polish is full of confusion. Mainly because there are at least four different versions of this polish created by OPI. So finding the version you want can be extremely difficult. The first two versions are a base of charcoal black packed with holo glitter. The newer version is more brown based with silver glitter. A blogger friend of mine Squared Nails just posted on the brown version of My Private Jet.

I have a version that is packed with holo glitter. This version is pretty hard to find and very expensive on ebay. Funny enough, I got this off ebay at the beginning of 2008 with about 5 other OPI's for around $25. So I never had to give into higher prices.

Pretty stunning isn't it! Directly in the sunlight, it's like a rainbow over black. My bottle has a very thin formula and I need four coats. As you can maybe notice it's still patchy. Most noticeably on my ring finger. In the future, I will coat this over black but I wanted to show the true colors for the blog post.

Next few pictures were taken on day two of my manicure. Unfortunately, I had a lot of tip wear at this point. Mainly because the top coat I use is old and anything past one day will have problems. But I'm still using it since for the most part I don't even keep a manicure on for more that one day.

In the house or in the shade my version basically just looks like a charcoal black with silver glitter. So not very fancy unless it's in sunlight.

Catrice - I Wear My Sunglasses At Night

I Wear My Sunglasses At Night is a new polish from Catrice that just hit the displays this month throughout Europe. This color is probably a bit hit or miss for some people and I'm on the hit end.

It's black with a little tiny flecks of fuchsia, turquoise, and orange glitter. It's definitely a color you need to wear during a day outside. Unfortunately, it wasn't even sunny the day I took pictures, but there was enough light to capture the glitter flecks. I used three coats and there is a top coat on. I had no problems with the application or drying problems.

Lots of glitter in the bottle but doesn't show up too much on the nail unless you're in the right light.

 

These pictures show the flecked glitter the best.

What do you think? It's a bit hit or miss, but it's definitely unique.

Eyeko - Cosmic

Tomorrow I'm flying to the US to stay with my family for a month. I'm really excited! I've been living in Switzerland for 6 months 1 week and 3 days. Very crazy. I haven't driven a car or had a Diet Coke. (Okay, I did splurge on an import Diet Coke Lime once.) I don't think my posting will totally drop off the month I'm away but it's possible.

Eyeko Cosmic is very appropriately named. A glossy black with bits of holographic glitter creating a very cosmic look. I used two coats.

 

Unfortunately Zurich is not very sunny during winter and I never managed to get a picture of this in the sun. So here it is with my camera's flash.
